I'm about to head out for the weekend, but will send you an email early next week. Perhaps we can arrange for a cup of coffee or phone chat. And technically, yes you're right, we really weren't suppose to be there but any port in a storm. Thanks and take care.

Re: La Isla de los Delores

Hi there, I was surprised to see your site, I thought the island was off limits to almost everyone. I lived there from October 61 until April of 64. I was the last Coast Guard wife to live there. Great picture of that old tramway. I thought I would never see that steep/rough thing again. What a climb after a very long boat ride from La Push and then a jump from the CG 36 footer into an eighteen foot skill. I had given birth on October 6th 1961 and went to DI on October 31st. Rough duty for a new Mom. I repeated the process in November of 62 but I flew from DI in a chopper and came back when my daughter was two weeks old. I have lots of stories to tell. I understand your frustration with those that leave behind a mess. I can assure you not only have I not left any trash, smoldering fire, etc. but like yourself have cleaned up after others including Ketron Island. I can also assure you I haven't knowingly trespassed on anyone's property much less been in their backyard.

It's my understanding that WA is a "Public Trust Doctrine" state. And the Public Trust Doctrine proclaims that certain lands and resources are held in trust by the State for the Public. This includes the tide lands and beach up to the mean high tide mark in-spite of tideland ownership.

I've paddle around Ketron for years and have had pleasant conversation with most of the landowners on the island both at the ferry dock landing and while resting below the high tide line. I've never been asked to leave and I can only hope that it was obvious that my actions and presence there was being respectful.

Having said that I don't want to be a bad neighbor and so will stay off your private property. I leave for a 2 week trip to Alaska in a few days but would be happy to meet you in Steilacoom for a coffee when I return.

Respectfully yours,

Re: A Gift of Sun

Ketron Island is a private island including the tide lands and beaches. While you may not be able to count the number of times you've trespassed on someone else's property, I CAN count the number of times I've had to clean up after people leaving their garbage, dirty diapers, and still smoldering fire pits behind. I am not accusing you personally of being a litter bug, but I would like to politely ask you to enjoy the scenery from the water and stop landing at Ketron Island. You may think your doing no harm and not bothering anyone but put yourself in our shoes. How would you feel if I parked my 4X4 truck in your backyard and leisurely had lunch and took a nap and snapped a dozen photos while you were away at work. Perhaps I didn't leave any tracks but I believe you would feel as invaded as we do when people use our PRIVATE property as a rest stop.

Re: Here’s Looking at Lummi Island

Looks like a great weekend.
